Happy kids make for a happy family.

Whether you're a parent or a teacher, the happiness of your children is paramount in determining your own happiness. Happy children thrive in the classroom and at home, fostering strong relationships with their teachers, classmates, family and friends. Adults can have a direct and meaningful impact on a child's happiness, and several strategies can actually help make a child feel happy.

Instructions

    • 1

Praise the child when he succeeds. Unnecessary praise can boost the child's ego and not motivate him to succeed, but deserving praise can have a positive impact on the child's self-esteem. If he does exceptionally well on his report card, scores the winning goal for his soccer team or wins the science fair, celebrate his achievement. Honoring accomplishments goes a long way in boosting the child's outlook on life.

    • 2

Engage the child with daily activities. A happy child wants attention from the adults she admires, like her parents or teachers. Set aside time each day to work or play one-on-one with the child. You can play in the backyard, read a book or cook dinner together. Spending this quality time together and receiving some attention and love will increase the child's happiness.

    • 3

Encourage socialization. Children need friends, and having a healthy and active social life can boost a child's happiness. If your child is shy, promote socialization by having him join an organization at school or an athletic team. This forced interaction can go a long way in helping your child build his social skills and, thereby, increase his happiness in life.

    • 4

Serve as a positive role model. Adopt a positive attitude in your life. If you are always unhappy or dwelling on the negative, then your child will likely adopt the same mentality. Conversely, if you are positive and genuinely happy in life, your child will embrace that happiness as well.

    • 5

Promote creativity. A child who can express herself creatively will have a more positive outlook on life. If she loves to sing, get her a microphone and let her belt out her favorite songs after school. If she loves to paint, set up an easel in the kitchen so she can express herself creatively whenever she wants.
