Review the address you have for the funeral home. Even if you feel confident that the address you have recorded is correct, make sure that the funeral home hasn't moved recently or closed. Check your local phone book or do an Internet search for the funeral home to determine if your information is current.

Decide for whom your letter is intended. Funeral homes often have several employees. Besides the business owner, the funeral home probably employs funeral directors, embalmers, office administrators and receptionists. If you are sending a letter to convey general information, direct it to the owner. Otherwise, you probably have in mind a specific person, a particularly kind funeral director worthy of a note of appreciation, for example. Find out the person's name if you don't already have it.

Start the letter with the salutation. If you are writing to John Smith, owner of Smith Funeral Home, begin with "Dear Mr. Smith." It is important to be courteous. Do not address the recipient by his first name unless he is a friend of yours. Write your letter, and sign your name.

Put the letter in an envelope. Address the envelope to the funeral home. Under the name of the funeral home, write "Attention: Mr. John Smith." Below that, write the street address, city, state and zip code for the funeral home. Include a return address on the envelope in case there is a problem delivering it. Place a postage stamp on the envelope, and mail it.
