How to Clear Internet Visits

It is possible to clear your Internet browsing history so that others that are using the same computer will not see what websites you have visited. You should clear your browsing history when using a shared computer to maintain privacy and security. Microsoft provides Windows users the ability to clear their Internet Explorer history from the "Internet Options" screen within the "Control Panel." Users of alternate Internet browsers, such as Firefox and Chrome, can clear the list of sited visited within the "Tools" tab. Clear your Internet browsing history within five minutes.

Instructions

  1. Within Windows

      Close Internet Explorer, click on the "Start" button that is located in the bottom-left corner of the corner of your computer screen, then click "Control Panel."

      Double-click on "Internet Options" to open the settings dialog box for Internet Explorer. Navigate to the "General" settings tab if it is not automatically selected for you.

      Click the "Delete" button under "Browsing History." Click "Delete History" from the next pop-up screen to remove the URL's you have recently visited from the list.

    Firefox and Chrome

      Open either Firefox or Chrome by double-clicking on the desktop icon for either of the two programs. Also, you can open either of these browsers by clicking "Start," going to "All Programs," then selecting the application from the list of programs that appears.

      Click on the "Tools" tab with your computer mouse. The "Tools" tab is located at the top of the browser's user interface screen in both applications.

      Select "Clear Browsing History" within Firefox, or "Clear Browsing Data" within Chrome. Place a check mark in the "Clear Browsing Data" dialog box on the next pop-up screen that appears within Chrome, choose the time period you wish to erase, then select "Clear Browsing Data" once again. In Firefox you can select the time period you wish to erase in the "Time range to clear" box and then select "Clear Now."

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also clear your browsing history within Internet Explorer by clicking on "Tools" then "Delete Browsing History." Choose "History" and "Form Data" and then click "Delete."
