How to Optimize Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista

Internet Explorer 8 slows down over time, like most browsers. Several things cause this, including modification of default settings to allow pop-ups and scripts -- originally prohibited -- to run when accessing specific websites. Add-ons, which are small programs installed on IE8, enable users to listen to music and watch videos on the Internet. There are several ways to optimize IE8 in Windows Vista for faster performance.

Instructions

  1. Disable Add-ons

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer 8 and go to "Tools."

    • 2

      Click "Manage Add-Ons."

    • 3

Right-click an add-on you don't use or recognize and click "Disable." Menu add-ons have recognizable names such as "PDF Helper" or "Acrobat Reader Add-on." Search the Internet for add-ons you don't recognize and disable those not needed.

    Delete Temporary Internet Files

    • 4

Open Internet Explorer 8 and go to "Tools."

    • 5

      Click "Internet Options."

    • 6

      Click "Delete" under "Browsing History."

    • 7

Check all options in the "Delete Browsing History" page and click "Delete."

    • 8

      Click "OK" when finished.

    Restore Default Internet Settings

    • 9

Open Internet Explorer 8 and go to "Tools."

    • 10

      Click "Internet Options."

    • 11

Go to "Advanced" tab and click the "Reset" button under "Reset Internet Explorer settings."

    • 12

      Click "OK" when done.

    Run DLL File Registration

    • 13

Click the circular Windows logo button on the lower left side corner of the screen and click "Run."

    • 14

Type "cmd" without the quotation marks and press "Enter" to open command prompt.

    • 15

Type "regsvr32 actxprxy.dll" without the quotation marks and hit "Enter."

    • 16

Close the command prompt after a message pops-up: "DllRegisterServer in actxprxy.dll succeeded."
