Although DirecTV recommends that your DVR be connected over a direct Ethernet cable or through a powerline connection, you can still connect it to the Internet over wireless Internet through your router. This is ideal if you cannot connect an Ethernet cable to the router, or if you live in an apartment or condo that may cause issues with the powerline system.
Things You'll Need
- Wireless transceiver configured for your network
- Ethernet cord
Connect the wireless transceiver's LAN port to the DVR's Ethernet port using the Ethernet cable.
Press the Menu button on your DVR remote.
Click "Help & Settings" from the menu that appears.
Click the "Setup" option from the list that appears, then click "Network."
Click "Connect Now" and click through the prompts to connect to your wireless network.
Tips & Warnings
- Be sure to use a transceiver compatible with your router. Contact your router's manufacturer if unsure.
