How to Clean a Hockey Bag

Hockey gear can get pretty sweaty and smelly over the course of a game. If you or your hockey player simply tosses that gear into a hockey bag and leaves it there until it's used again, that bag can start to smell rather foul. Old sweat and even mildew are to blame, and it may seem nearly impossible to get that bag clean. But cleaning a hockey bag is possible with some basic household items. Remember to clean the bag often to prevent it from smelling like a permanent locker room.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean cloth(s)
  • Antifungal cleaner
  • Odor-removing spray
  • Empty all gear out of the bag. Wash the gear with laundry detergent and hot water, if possible, or spray it with an antifungal cleaner and wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth.

  • Spray an antifungal cleaner on a clean, damp cloth and scrub the inside of the hockey bag. Be sure to clean any pockets, seams and all corners.

  • Hang up the hockey bag with the zippers open and allow to air dry for up to 24 hours.

  • Spray an odor-removing antibacterial spray inside the bag.

  • Allow the bag to dry thoroughly before filling with (clean) gear.
