How to Track "Unfollows" on Twitter
While Twitter provides a list of the people you are following, and those who are following you, it does not not notify you of new followers, or when people stop following you. If you are not followed by a lot of people on Twitter, it is relatively easy to track unfollows just by scanning the list of your followers to see who is missing. Once you have a few hundred or more friends on Twitter, this method is not as useful. Several Web-based tools can help you keep track of who unfollows you on Twitter.

1
Open a Web browser and log into Twitter using your username and password. This will take you to your Twitter homepage.
-
2
Note the number of followers you have on the right side of your homepage. When someone unfollows you, this number will decrease.
-
-
3
Click the "Following" link on the right of the profile. This will give you a complete list of the accounts you are following. Click any account to see if they have unfollowed you. Their profiles will appear on the right of the window. If there is a "Message" button, allowing you to send a Direct Message (DM), they are following you. If this button is not visible, the account is not following you.
-
4
Open a new tab or window in your Web browser. Go to a service such as Tweeter Karma, FriendorFollow or TwUnfollow to identify who has unfollowed you.
-
5
Follow the instructions on the Web page. Tweeter Karma and TwUnfollow use Twitter OAuth authentication to sign into your Twitter account on your behalf. Click the "Sign in With Twitter" link, to use this type of service. FriendorFollow requires only your Twitter username. Enter your username and click "submit."
-
6
Wait for the tracking service to load the Twitter accounts linked to your account. TwUnfollow will only list accounts that have unfollowed you since the last time you used the service. Tweeter Karma and FriendorFollow give you three lists. Your "following" list is people you follow but who do not follow you. Your "fans" or "followers" list are people you do not follow, but who follow you. Your "friends" are people you follow, who follow you as well.

Examine the list of accounts in your "following" list. Click any account to have the profile open in a new window or browser. Click the green "Following" button to unfollow the account if you desire. Click the gear icon to block the account if you feel this action is warranted.
