How to Disable a 2001 Lincoln Town Car Seat Belt Alarm

Save

The 2001 Lincoln Town Car comes with Ford's Belt Minder warning system. This reminds you to wear your seat belt by emitting a chime and displaying a light in the odometer cluster. You can turn off the alarm by deactivating the Belt Minder system. The procedure to enable the Belt Minder system is the same as deactivating it. If you've deactivated the feature, follow the process again to reactivate it. Ford recommends wearing your seat belt, and most states have laws requiring you to do so.

  • Turn off the Town Car's headlights and depress the parking brake pedal.

  • Turn the Town Car's key to "Run" or "On." Don't crank its engine. The seat belt reminder light will show in the odometer cluster. Wait one to three minutes, until it turns off.

  • Buckle and unbuckle the driver side seat belt three times.

  • Turn the dash headlight switch on for a second, and then turn it off.

  • Buckle and unbuckle the seat belt three times. The seat belt light will turn on again for three seconds.

  • Buckle and unbuckle the seat belt once. The seat belt light will flash rapidly. When it stops flashing, the alarm is turned off.
