How to Adjust the Handlebars on a VTX Honda Motorcycle

Save

Of all the adjustments you might make on your VTX Honda motorcycle, adjusting the handlebars is one of the least complicated. That's not to say adjusting the bars is a snap, but once you become familiar with the process, you can adjust the handlebars for certain types riding. You might prefer the bars rolled back for street riding, and rolled forward for long cruises. The handlebars on your VTX Honda are secured in two bar mounts atop the steering headset. The first step is accessing the compression bolts at each mount.

Things You'll Need

  • Fine-tip screwdriver
  • Allen wrench
  • Park the motorcycle on the kickstand. Locate the small chrome caps in recesses on the top of each bar mount.

  • Insert the point of a fine-tip screwdriver into the seam between one of the caps and the recess.

  • Carefully pry the cap off by working the screwdriver at an angle to prevent scratching the cap. Pry the remaining caps off in the same way and set them aside.

  • Loosen the compression bolts at each mount counterclockwise with an Allen wrench. Sit on the rider's seat and hold the hand grips. Lift or lower the handlebars to the desired angle.

  • Tighten the compression bolts at each mount clockwise with the Allen wrench. Lift up and push down on the hand grips to make sure the bars are secure. Tighten the bolts again, if necessary.

  • Put the caps back in place and tap each one down with the butt of your screwdriver.
