How to Create a Name Badge Template in Microsoft Word 2000

Save

Name badges help guests identify each other at company meetings, fun get-togethers and other events. There's no need to handwrite each name badge if you're expecting several guests. Save time by typing and printing the badges on your computer. Microsoft Word 2000 lets you customize badges of different colors, styles and sizes. You don't have to set the dimensions of name badges each time you create them --- use a predefined template instead.

  • Create a new document in Microsoft Word 2000.

  • Click "Tools," "Letters and Mailings" and "Envelopes and Labels." Select the "Labels" tab in the Envelopes and Labels dialog box. Click "Options." The Label Options dialog box displays.

  • Click the "New Label" button. You are directed to the New Custom laser dialog box.

  • Go to the "Label Name" text field. Enter a label template name, such as "Birthday Party Name Badge."

  • Enter the following dimensions to create a 3-by-4 name badge. Dimensions may differ depending on your badge:

    Top margin: 1 inch

    Side margin: 0.2 inches

    Vertical pitch: 3 inches

    Label height: 3 inches

    Label width: 4 inches

    Number across: 1

    Number down: 3

    Paper size: "Letter (8 1/2 x 11 in.)"

  • Enter the following dimensions to create a 2.25-by-3.5 name badge. Dimensions may differ depending on your badge:

    Top margin: 1 inch

    Side margin: 0.38 inches

    Vertical pitch: 2.25 inches

    Label height: 2.25 inches

    Label width: 3.5 inches

    Number across: 1

    Number down: 4

    Paper size: "Letter (8 1/2 x 11 in.)"

  • Click "OK" to save the settings and close the Options dialog box. You are redirected to the Label Options dialog box.

  • Select the name badge you just created and click "OK."

  • Click "New Document" to use the name-badge template in a new Word document. Type the first person's name and press the "TAB" key to move to the next cell. Enter the next person's name, press "TAB" and repeat this process until all the badges are complete.
