Many AR-15 rifles come with a front sling attachment. This sling attachment is usually part of the front sight assembly. This loop allows you to attach a two-point sling to your rifle. However, some shooters prefer to use a single-point sling that attaches to the rear of the rifle. That makes the front loop unnecessary. It's possible to remove the front loop to reduce the weight of the rifle or to change the look of the sight assembly.
Things You'll Need
- Gun punch tool
- Rubber mallet
Place the gun on its side, with the right side of the receiver facing down.
Locate the small set pin on the front sight adjacent to the swivel loop. The pin is small, usually black, and holds the loop in place.
Place a gun punch tool over the loop pin, and gently hammer it out using a rubber mallet. Keep hammering until the pin releases from the opposite side.
Pull the pin and the swivel loop away from the sight assembly.
