How to Find .Edu Websites

Limiting search engine searches so they only include websites that contain .edu is done using search operators. Search operators help search engines get a better picture of what you are looking for. Most search engines use the same search operators, so what works for Google will also work for Bing, Ask and Yahoo! Search.

  • Go to your favorite search engine such as Google, Bing, or Yahoo.

  • Type in "" in the search box (without the quotation marks). This search operator will limit your search to only education websites that use edu domains.

  • Add any additional words to the search box that will help you limit your search results. Do as specific of a search as you can to start. If you don't get the right results, you can eliminate some of the words.

  • Place a plus sign (+) before the site: search operator to ensure all search results contain it. It should look like this:

  • Place a plus sign before any other search words that you want the search to contain.

  • Place quotation marks (") around exact phrases you want the search to contain. If you were looking for educational sites in New York, you would type: "New York".
