One of the most common pieces of outdoor furniture other than lawn chairs is a patio table. Many people use glass top patio tables because of their sturdiness and quick cleaning. During the cold winter months it is a good idea to store the patio table to protect it from snow, ice and sleet. However, it may be difficult to find enough room to place the table in a garage or shed. One solution is to take apart a glass top patio table.

Step 1

Close the patio table's umbrella and remove it from the center of the table, if yours has an umbrella. Look for a thumbscrew on the umbrella base and turn it counterclockwise with your fingers. Pull the umbrella pole straight up and out of the base and table. If necessary, ask a friend to assist.

Step 2

Place your fingers inside the center hole of the glass top and lift the glass straight off the table. The glass sits inside the patio table top frame on rubber spacers on tables with umbrellas. If you have a solid patio table top, push the top up from the bottom until you can grasp the side of the glass and pull it away from the table frame.

Step 3

Turn the patio table upside down over grass or towels. Look for plastic spacers inside the table top frame, if the glass does not simply pull out. Grasp the plastic spacers with a pair of pliers and pull them out of the table frame. Lift the glass top away from the table once you remove all spacers.

Step 4

Remove the screws securing the center bracket to the four legs of the patio table with a Phillips screwdriver. The screws are on the outside of the legs. Depending on the table, there might be one or two center brackets.
