How to Use Self Hold Velcro Rollers

How to Use Self Hold Velcro Rollers thumbnail
Velcro rollers come in multiple sizes, depending upon how tight you want your curls.

Velcro rollers can be a blessing if you're rolling your hair by yourself. The finely-toothed Velcro nubs catch on the hair and hold it firmly in place so you can wind your hair to your scalp, where it holds on its own. Now the bad news: If you don't know what you're doing, they can get stuck in your hair. Despite this possibility, Velcro rollers can give big bounce and body to hair without resort to damaging heat, making it a healthier alternative to curling irons. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a styling spray to your hair before each section is rolled. Make sure your hair is dry or nearly dry. Sopping wet hair is fragile, can break or catch in Velcro rollers and will take a long time to dry.

    • 2

Blow dry the roots, flipping your hair from side to side to build volume.

    • 3

Part your hair in 2-inch sections, or a section that closely matches the width of the Velcro roller and secure it with a clip. Hair that is sectioned wider and falling off the roller can get snagged when it is rolled.

    • 4

Begin at the crown of your head. Place a Velcro roller behind the sectioned hair toward the ends, then wind the roller down toward your scalp. Clip it at the base of the curler if it doesn't stay on its own.

    • 5

Repeat with another section, just in front of the roller at your crown. Roll the hair onto the roller and down toward your scalp. Complete the top of your head.

    • 6

Roll the sides of your hair in the same manner. Place the rollers vertically from front to back.

    • 7

Blow dry your rolled hair with a blast from the hair dryer. Let the rollers cool, then remove the rollers. Extend your hair all the way up and out of the roller so it doesn't get snagged.

    • 8

Flip your head over and rake the curls with your fingers. Don't use a brush. Spray with a finishing spray to hold, if desired.
