How to Install Water Slide Decals

With a home printer and computer, you can create customized decals, using either designs you create on a computer or pictures you take or find on the Internet. Water slide decals adhere to a variety of surfaces, depending on the brand, including glass, plastic, metal and ceramic. In order to apply a water slide decal, you will need water as well as some other supplies. Instructions

    • 1

Cut the decal out of its sheet, using either scissors or a pen knife. Make sure the decal sheet sits on a surface that you don't mind being scratched or gouged by a pen knife.

    • 2

Clean the surface you wish to apply the decal to, making sure it is free of dust, grime and hairs. Use a microfiber cloth or other material that will not leave behind fibers on the surface.

    • 3

Submerge the decal in a shallow container of water and allow it to sit for no more than 90 seconds. Remove the decal and place it on the surface with the backing paper touching the surface.

    • 4

Slide the backing paper carefully from behind the decal, leaving the decal alone on the surface. Move the decal until it sits exactly where you want it.

    • 5

Use a sponge to blot air bubbles from under the decal, starting in the middle and working toward the decal's edges. Use a clean and dry microfiber cloth to wipe away any excess water from the decal and surrounding area. Allow the decal to dry, then spray the decal with a clear acrylic spray and allow it to dry again.
