Knowing how to use your coupons will allow you to save big.

The key to obtaining legitimately free items at Target -- or any store -- is looking out for sales, and using coupons to further increase savings. It is also important to be aware of store policies regarding coupons. As of April 2011, Target's coupon policy stated that it would accept one Target store coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. This means you can use two coupons per item. When sale prices are low, and high-volume coupons are in circulation, Target customers can save big. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up Target's weekly ad. This can be found at your local Target store, in your Sunday newspaper, or online at target.com. Read through the ad and take note of any sale items that you may be interested in.

Look through your coupons for deal matches. You can use coupons from your weekly Sunday newspaper, printed from target.com, or printed from various other websites such as coupons.com and redplum.com.

Take notes of any coupons you have that match up with sale items. This is the best way to see if you'll be getting any items for free. For example, in Target's ad for the week of March 20, 2011 through March 26, 2011, Target had 8.1 oz. Colgate toothpaste on sale for $1.99. Target.com had a Target coupon for $1 off Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste, and the Smart Source insert of the Sunday paper had a $1 off Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste manufacturer's coupon. Since both of these coupons can be stacked together on one item, that made the cost of one 8.1 oz. Colgate Toothpaste free.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are a number of Web sites on the Internet that match current sales with circulating coupons. Before your next trip to Target, do a web search for "Target Sales Coupon Match" and you will be directed to that week's best deals.
