Do it Yourself: Up-Do Directions

Create a smooth up-do or French twist at home with bobby pins and the right technique. The style only takes minutes to do, and it works with straight, wavy, curly or braided hair. The French twist is a classic style that is appropriate for work or for more elegant occasions like a wedding.

Things You'll Need

• Shampoo
• Towel
• Bobby pins

Instructions

1. Shampoo and rinse your hair so it is clean and free of oils. Squeeze out excess water. Dry your hair with a towel.

2. Sweep your hair into a taut ponytail. Hold the ponytail with one hand so it remains securely in place. Keep your other hand free.

3. Twist your hair with your free hand in a clockwise direction. Twist your hair around twice or until all the hair is twisted.. Smooth the hair with your hand as the style takes shape to prevent flyaway strands.

4. Fold the twist to one side and pin it down with bobby pins. Gently push the bobby pins toward your scalp but at a curve so they tuck under your hair.

Tips & Warnings

• Apply a heat protectorate to hair if you are going to straighten it with a blow dryer or flat iron.
