How to Obtain a Copy of Your GED in Texas
The General Education Development (GED) test can be administered to students who did not complete their high school education or obtain a high school diploma. A passing score on the GED test is viewed by most employers and institutions of higher education as equivalent to a high school diploma. These agencies will often request a GED transcript or official GED certificate to confirm that an applicant has successfully obtained his GED. Those who passed the GED in Texas must write to the GED Unit of the Texas Education Agency to obtain a copy of their official GED certificate/transcript.

Navigate to the Texas Education Agency's website on General Education Development on your web browser. Download an "Official GED Certificate/Transcript Request Form."

Complete the form. You may fill in the blanks on the form by typing or handwriting your answers. Write your first name and your last name. If your last name was different at the time that you passed the GED, write the last name that you had when you took the GED test and your current last name. List your Social Security Number and your birth date. Include your current mailing address and email address, if you have one. Provide the date that you took the GED test in Texas. If you do not know the exact date that you took the test, make an educated guess as to the date. Include the address where you would like the certificate sent. Lastly, sign your name and provide your phone number.

Include a check or money order for $5 (as of April, 2011) payable to "TEA-GED" with the request form.

Mail the check and form to "TEA/GED unit" at the address listed on the form. It will take approximately three weeks for the certificate to be mailed to your desired recipient. To shorten the processing time, you may also overnight your request to "CPA--Lockbox" at the address listed on the form under "Overnight address." Overnighting the request form will make the processing time one week.
