How to Use Heirlooms to Level Characters in "World of Warcraft"

Leveling a new character in "World of Warcraft" can be a long and tedious task especially if all of the quest content is familiar. In the "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion a new type of item was released called Heirloom gear. These pieces of armor and weapons can be purchased by high-level players and sent to lower level characters on the same account. Not only does Heirloom gear improve as the character levels, but also grants the character a percentage bonus in experience points gained from killing monsters and completing quests, making the journey to 85 much smoother.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a new character and find out what type of armor they will be using.

    • 2

With a level 85 character, go to the Justice Heirloom vendor and purchase a shoulder slot item and a chest slot item. For Horde characters, find this vendor in Orgrimmar and for Alliance characters, find it in Stormwind City. Buy the pieces that have stats that correspond to the role that your new class will take.

    • 3

Find the Guild Vendor in either Orgrimmar or Stormwind and purchase the cloak slot item and the helmet slot item with stats that correspond to your new class.

    • 4

Send the purchased items to your new character in the mail.

    • 5

Log in on your new character, retrieve the Heirloom items from a mailbox and equip them for a 35% bonus to all experiences gained while fighting monsters and completing quests.

    • 6

Play the character normally, progressing through the various questing zones and complete as many quests as possible. Once the color of the quest title becomes green in your quest log, proceed to a higher level questing zone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Whenever you log off your newly created character, do so in an inn or safe zone where your experience points bar will turn blue. This will allow your character to gain rested experience while you are offline, giving you a further experience bonus when you resume playing. Make sure you are in a guild with the second rank of the Fast Track perk. This will give you an extra 10% experience bonus while leveling.

  • After reaching maximum level on your new character, save the Heirloom items in your bank to be used at a later date.

  • You can also purchase various weapons and trinkets at the Justice Heirloom vendors that do not grant the experience bonus but will further improve your characters stats.

  • Heirloom items are expensive and cannot be refunded once purchased.
