How to Get Codecs on PlayStation 3

Different types of media files are encoded in different ways. These methods of encoding are called "codecs." In order for a device like your PlayStation 3 to properly play certain files, it will need to have the associated codec installed. On the PlayStation 3, this is accomplished by selecting a specific command from within the Web browser when you attempt to play these files. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PlayStation 3 and open the console's built-in Web browser from the onscreen "Network" menu.

    • 2

Press "Triangle" on your controller. This opens the PlayStation 3 Web browser's "Options" menu. Select "File" and "Address" to navigate to the site that contains the content you want to view.

    • 3

Select the "Play" option on the site. A full-screen message appears, asking you if you want to download and install the plug-in required to play the content you have selected. Repeat this process as you browse the Internet on your PlayStation 3. Periodically you come across content that the PlayStation 3 has no codec for, at which point you are prompted to download and install the associated plug-in once again.
