CafePress is a popular online company that allows users to set up their own "shops" to sell their artwork or text, on merchandise. The merchandise includes T-shirts, totes, calenders, posters, and more. You can sell your own designs -- or you can create designs for yourself or a club or organization, such as your son's soccer team.

Decide on the design you want on a T-shirt or other merchandise types CafePress allows. Once you are signed up with CafePress, you can upload merchandise upon which you can place your visual or text design. Your decision will be based on why you want add your designs to products and what you plan to use these designs for.

Brainstorm ideas for the type of design you want. For example, you might want a Christmas design for your child's Christmas school play, or you might want a trendier design to sell through CafePress's Marketplace, as well as on your own website.

Create your designs in a sketchbook, fine-tuning them, until you achieve a design you like. If you are familiar with graphics software, you can create your design in a graphics program. You can crop your design when loading it to CafePress, using software on CafePress.

When uploading your design to CafePress, it is important to set the image resolution to 200dpi (dots per inch). Cafepress offers templates to determine the dimensions for your design, depending on the product. For T-shirts, your image dimensions should be 10 inches by 10 inches.
