How to Find a Website by Keyword

A keyword is a word or phrase that you can use to search websites for the subject you are interested in. The search engine uses the word or phrase to search the pages of many websites for the information you need. It then returns a list of websites containing pages with the related information. Your search for a website is more effective when you appropriately formulate your keyword.

Instructions

Determine the keyword to use in your search, based on the subject you are interested in. Be as specific as possible. For instance, many websites offer information on cancer, but if you are searching for one that deals with a particular type of cancer, then you should pick a specific keyword, like "skin cancer."

Open your browser then type the web address of a search engine into the address field. Popular search engines include Google, Yahoo and Bing. Click the search field and type your keyword. Place quotation marks around the keyword or phrase if you want to limit the results to websites that contain all the words in your keyphrase, exactly as you have typed them. For instance, "skin cancer." UC Berkley provides additional search tips for three search engines.
