How to Find Unread Hotmail and Gmail

Trying to find an unread email you didn't read but you know is in your inbox can be a hassle if you are constantly getting new emails. Hotmail and Gmail let you separate the unread email from the email you've read so you can narrow down your search immediately. Hotmail offers a button that lets you instantly separate the unread email from the email; Gmail lets you separate read from unread email, but it's a bit more tricky.

Instructions

  1. Hotmail

      Open your Web browser and navigate to hotmail.com.

      Click the blank field beneath Windows Live ID on the right side of the Web page, enter your Windows Live ID and press "Tab."

      Enter the password associated with your Windows Live ID, then click "Sign in."

      Position your cursor over "Hotmail" to the right of Windows Live ID in the upper-left corner of the screen until a drop-down menu appears beneath Hotmail. Click "Inbox." Your Hotmail inbox appears on the screen.

      Click "Unread" beneath Inbox, located just above your list of messages. A list of unread messages, sorted by date, appears.

    Gmail

      Navigate to gmail.com.

      Click the blank field to the right of Username beneath Google Account on the right side of the screen. Enter the username associated with your Gmail account, then press "Tab."

      Enter the password associated with your Gmail account, then click "Sign in."

      Type "is:unread" in the blank field to the left of Search Mail, then press "Enter." A list of unread emails, sorted by date, appears.
