How to Find the Day of the Week in Any Year

If you want to find out what day of the week a particular date fell on, there is a resource you can use regardless of the year in question. The Windows operating system provides a built-in calendar featuring day information dating back decades, even before the invention of the personal computer. This allows you to look up the information you seek even if you don't have an active Internet connection. Does this Spark an idea?

      Click the calendar icon in lower right corner of your desktop. This will open the built-in Windows calendar on screen. By default the calendar application will display the current date and time.

      Click the listing for the month and year at the top of the calendar application. This will expand the built-in calendar into a listing of all the months for the current year.

      Use the "Left" arrow next to the listed year to change the year you are viewing. Using the "Left" arrow shows past years, while using the "Right" arrow will show future years. Use these arrows to navigate to the year with the date in question.

      Click the listing for the month that contains the day of the week you are researching. This will show a calendar for that year and month. Look on the calendar to find out what day of the week a particular date fell on.

Tips & Warnings

  • A similar calendar application is available on the Mac OS X operating system, called iCal. Open iCal from either the Mac OS X dock or the "Applications" menu in the Finder. Use the "Left" and "Right" arrows in the main iCal window to navigate through past years and months and future years and months, respectively.
