A laptop touchpad enables you to perform all the functions of a mouse on a computer and eliminates the need for extra peripheral devices. If you do have an external mouse, you can use it in conjunction with, or as an alternative to the touchpad. You may want to disable the touchpad if you accidentally touch it when you don't want to or if it interferes with computer operation. You can enable or disable the touchpad on the HP Compaq NC6000 using the built-in driver.
Click "Start" (the Windows Orb) on your HP Compaq NC6000 desktop. Type "mouse" in the search field and press "Enter."
Open the "Mouse" program in the Control Panel.
Click the "Device Settings" tab and click the "disable" button to disable the touchpad or "enable" to re-enable the touchpad.
