How to Troubleshoot a Paper Jam on an HP Officejet Pro 8000
Paper jams in the HP Officejet Pro 8000 can occur in a number of areas, including the paper trays, the removable duplexer and the paper path inside the printer. When you become aware that the printer is experiencing a paper jam, you need to locate the jam inside the printer and remove it, as well as determine if damage to the printer contributed to the jam. Not sliding the paper width guide so it touches the edges of the paper in the input tray as well as an overflowing output tray will often cause paper jams.

1
Remove the media from the Officejet Pro 8000's input tray and inspect it for signs of damage, such as wrinkles or folds. Remove any damaged paper from the stack.
-
2
Press the buttons on either end of the printer's duplexer, which attaches to the back of the printer, and pull the duplexer off the printer. Pull out any paper stuck in the printer's rollers, being careful to not tear the paper.

3
Press the latch on the top of the duplexer, then fold down the duplexer's side cover. Pull out any stuck pieces of paper inside the duplexer, then fold the cover back up so the latch snaps.
-
4
Push the duplexer back into the back of the printer until both buttons snap. Fold open the printer's top cover and pull out any stuck pieces of paper you can see. Remove any pieces of paper that sit in the cartridge carriage's pathway, then fold the top cover back down.

5
Press the printer's "Power" button to turn it off, then pull the power cord out of the printer to avoid the printer accidentally turning back on. Lift up the printer to remove it from paper tray 2, then pull out any stuck paper inside the tray or from the bottom of the printer. Place the printer back onto the paper tray 2.
-
6
Place the paper stack back into the printer's input tray and adjust the paper width guide so it touches the edge of the paper stack.
