How to Make Crepe Paper Decorations
Nothing says "party" like streamers hanging from ceilings and looping along the walls. Garlands of colorful crepe paper add a bright and lively element to the decorations for a child's birthday celebration, while more subdued colors provide a nice backdrop for a wedding shower or anniversary celebration. Whatever colors you choose, creating streamers to hang throughout the party room is inexpensive and a relatively simple task. Adding a fringe to your streamers provides a new spin on an old party favorite.
Things You'll Need
- Several packages of flat, rolled crepe paper in various colors
- Scissors
- Clear tape
Instructions

1
Keep the crepe paper rolled as you remove it from the packaging, and cut it into 3-inch sections.
-
2
Cut fringe along the sides of each 3-inch section of crepe paper by laying the paper so it is wider rather than taller in front of you, and making a 1-inch cut toward the center of the paper. Continue to make these cuts at 1/8-inch intervals until you have fringed one whole side, then flip the crepe paper over and repeat on the opposite side.

3
Separate the fringe sections by rubbing your hand gently along the fringe and crushing the crepe paper lightly in your hands.
-
4
Unroll the crepe paper, taking extra care not to rip it. Fold the paper into thirds, crumple it and then unfold it once more. It is now ready to hang.
-
5
Repeat Steps 2 through 4 with each 3-inch strip of crepe paper.
-
6
Hang the streamers throughout the room using clear tape.
