How to Set Text Styles in Dreamweaver CS3

Designers can set text styles in Dreamweaver without prior knowledge of HTML styling.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 allows you to develop web pages by either hand-writing code in a developer environment or building them in a "what you see is what you get" designer environment. You can manually write styles of elements, including blocks of text, via an automatically-generated, drop-down list of parameters in the hard coding environment. However, if you are not familiar with inline HTML styling, it is also possible to easily manage the styles for a block of text via the properties menu.

Instructions

1. Highlight the text you wish to apply styles to in the designer window.

2. Click on the "Style" drop-down menu in the Properties box at the bottom of the screen. If the Properties box is collapsed, you can expand it by clicking on the rightward-facing arrow to the left of the word "Properties."

3. Click on "Manage Styles" in the "Style" drop-down menu.

4. Click on "New" in the "New CSS Style" pop-up menu that appears. Give your new style class a name, highlight the radio button on the bottom that says "This Document Only."

5. Click on "OK" and a new pop-up will appear from which you can define any style element you want to apply to the highlighted text. From here you can adjust the text's color, size, line height, weight, decoration, background color, spacing, alignment, border, positioning, and any other visual effects you wish to apply to the text.

6. Click "OK" when finished to apply your selected styles to the highlighted text.

Tips & Warnings

• If you wish to edit the style you have set or reuse it at another point in your page, you can select it from the "Styles" drop-down menu in the properties box.
