DIY Mesh Earring Holder With Ribbon

Hang long earrings with shorter ones for a varied visual effect.

Earrings are lovely to wear, but to maintain their condition, you need to store them properly. The longer and more complex an earring is, the more likely it is to tangle with the rest of your jewelry. Instead of leaving your earrings in a box, create a mesh hanger for them. A mesh hanger allows you to keep your earrings hanging up neatly while still being accessible when you want to wear them.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood picture frame
  • Measuring tape
  • Wire mesh
  • Heavy shears or tin snips
  • Hammer

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the glass and backing from a wood picture frame.

    • 2

Measure the frame's length and width.

    • 3

Cut a rectangle of wire mesh that has the same dimensions of the frame using tin snips or shears.

    • 4

Turn the frame over so that the back is facing up.

    • 5

Place the wire mesh on top of the wooden frame, lining up the edges so that they match.

    • 6

Use the hammer and nails to attach the wire mesh to the frame. Trim any overhanging mesh with your tin snips or shears.

    • 7

Cut a length of 1 inch-wide grosgrain ribbon that is twice the length of the side that you want to be the top of the earring holder.

    • 8

Nail one end the ribbon to the frame's upper corner. Repeat with the ribbon's other end on the opposite frame corner. The ribbon allows you to hang the earring holder over a nail or hook sunk into the wall.

    • 9

Thread the earrings through the mesh. If the earrings are backed with posts rather than French hooks, push the posts through the mesh and attach the backing on the other side of the mesh.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may use staples instead of nails to attach the wire mesh to the frame.
