How to Clean Champagne

Champagne and white wine stains are usually easier to remove than red wine stains.

Champagne is a sparkling wine made with pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier, according to ChampagneInfo.net. The grapes used are mostly blue-skinned grapes with white flesh that contain tannins. These tannins can leave a stain on clothes, furniture and floors just like red wine. So before you pop the cork and let the bubbly flow, make sure you are in a spill-safe environment or have a few items on hand to take care of unwanted stains.   Remove champagne stains from clothing as soon as possible. Otherwise, the tannin will sink into the fabric. If you are in a restaurant and you have just spilled champagne on yourself, use a sponge, napkin or paper towel to blot out the champagne spill on your clothing. Then, using a sponge or paper towel put club soda on the stain. The carbonation in the soda draws the stain out, according to WineDefinitions.com

  If you spill champagne on yourself at home and the fabric you are wearing is a washable fabric like cotton, pour hot water onto the stain. Then, dab the stain with laundry detergent or stain remover. Put the item in the laundry and wash as usual, according to GoodHouseKeeping. If the item is made of wool or silk or is a dry clean only item, use club soda to draw the stain out and then put stain remover on it. Take the item to the dry cleaner and point the stain out to them.

  If you spill champagne on your carpet, sponge it with carbonated soda water. Blot the area well and then use a paper towel with detergent and water to try to lift the stain. Be gentle when rubbing. If you let the detergent sit on it for five minutes before rubbing it can help lift the stain easier, according to TheSexyKitchen.
