How to Use Beanpod Candles

How to Use Beanpod Candles thumbnail
Soybeans wax is a sustainable product.

Beanpod soy candles are organic, environmentally friendly candles made in a small town in northeastern Iowa. The wax is made from soybeans. Unlike paraffin wax, which is used in most candles, soybean wax is a sustainable product made from an easily renewable source. And it burns longer, to boot. Because soybean wax is softer than paraffin wax, and the Beanpod's lead-free wick burns more slowly, Beanpod soy candles require a little extra care to burn efficiently. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Beanpod candle on a heat-resistant surface (the glass gets quite hot when the candle is burning) that is protected from drafts and breezes.

    • 2

      Light the soy candle.

    • 3

Allow the candle to burn at least until the wax melts and pools all the way to the sides of the glass container for its first burn. Otherwise, the candle will tunnel during subsequent burns, and none of the wax on the outer edges of the candle will burn. This only applies to the first burn. For subsequent burns, burn the candle as long as you like.

    • 4

Blow the candle out when you are finished using it. Then place the lid on the candle to keep the wax free of debris. Never use the lid to put out the flame. Do not burn the candle for more than four hours at a time.

    • 5

Trim the wick to 1/4 inch in height before your next burn. Otherwise, the candle will produce excess soot, and the wick may mushroom. Brush the wick trimmings off of the surface of the candle before burning.

    • 6

Discard the Beanpod candle once the wax level is down to 1/4 inch.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never leave a candle burning unattended.
