How to Get a DVR
Digital video recorders, or DVR for short, allow you to record television programming to watch later. You can even fast-forward past the parts you don't want to see. You can buy a DVR in the electronics section of your favorite store or you can lease one from your cable or satellite provider.

Contact your cable/satellite provider. Most offer a DVR for an additional fee every month. You may actually already have a DVR built into your receiver that just needs to be activated by the provider. Depending on your cable/satellite service you subscribe to it generally costs around an extra $10 a month.

Purchase a DVR from the store. Depending on the DVR's features, the cost can range anywhere from $100 to nearly $1,000. If you don't want to go through your service provider, or you receive television via satellite or antenna, you can buy one anywhere electronics are sold. DVRs require Internet access. The connection speed requirement will to vary, but any high-speed connection is going to suffice. You can use the same high-speed Internet connection as your computer.
