How Do I Make a Tutu T-Shirt?
Transform an ordinary T-shirt into an adorable tutu shirt for a little girl who loves to dress up like a fairy or ballerina. She can wear the shirt for dress-up and still feel like she is in costume at daycare or school. Adding a tulle tutu to the T-shirt is simple, and you can customize the tutu in any color or number of tulle layers that you like.

1
Put the shirt on the child, and use a soft tape measure to measure the circumference of the child around the bottom hemline of the shirt. Multiply the circumference by three for a final measurement. For example, a circumference of 20 inches multiplied by three equals 60 inches.
-
2
Cut one piece of tulle with scissors that equals the final measurement by 12 inches. Fold the tulle in half to make a piece that measures the final measurement by 6 inches.
-
-
3
Cut another piece of tulle in a different color that equals the final measurement by 14 inches. Fold the tulle in half to make a piece that measures the final measurement by 7 inches.
-
4
Lay the 6-inch wide piece of tulle on top of the 7-inch wide piece, and align the long rough edges. There should be 1 inch of the long folded edge of the 7-inch wide piece that extends past the folded edge of the 6-inch wide piece. Pin the rough edges together using sewing pins.
-
5
Sew a loose gathering stitch, or basting stitch on a sewing machine, along the pinned edges of the tulle. Do not cut the thread.
-
6
Pull on the thread to gather the edges of the tulle. Keep pulling until the tulle equals about 2 to 3 inches longer than the circumference of the bottom of the shirt.
-
7
Lay the shirt on your work surface with the hemline in front of you. Lay the tulle on the shirt, with the rough edge of the tulle in front of you and the folded edge up on the shirt. The 7-inch wide piece of tulle should be on top.
-
8
Pin one end of the tulle to the back-center of the hemline. Stretch the shirt just slightly, and insert another pin between the tulle and the shirt's hemline. Continue all the way around the shirt.
