How to Do a Complete Backup in Windows
Every computer running Microsoft Windows 7 should have a complete backup at least once to allow easy recovery from a catastrophic hard drive failure. Being able to restore the computer to a working prior state with the operating system, software, drivers and updates intact can save hours of installation and configuration time. After a crash the last thing that anyone needs is more delays. Create a full system image of Windows 7 and combine it with a daily backup of important data files for complete protection against any data loss.

Log on as the administrator or the equivalent if not already logged in as such.

Click "Start" and "Computer."

Right click on the primary hard disk drive "C" and click "Properties."

Click "Back Up Now" under the "Tools" tab of the hard drive properties.

Click "Create a System Image" from the left panel menu in the backup and restore settings dialog window.

Click on the desired destination drive and click "Next" to continue.

Click "Start Backup," label a blank disc with the number "1" and a description of the computer being backed up along with a date and insert the disc into the optical drive if using the DVD method. Label subsequent disks sequentially and insert them as prompted.

Tips & Warnings
Keep the backup in a safe location in a different building to prevent localized events such as a fire or theft from damaging all copies of the data.
Many small businesses never recover from a catastrophic data loss, which could have been easily prevented by making a simple backup.
