How to Make the "Save As" Box Smaller in Windows Vista

The "Save As" dialog box allows you to specify the hard drive location, Windows directory and the file or folder name when saving documents. The "Save As" box in Windows Vista lets you save files to different locations, such as removable media drives, and in alternative file formats that have the ability to auto-recover previously saved information. A full-size "Save As" dialog box can get in the way of your document and actually make it difficult to save a document.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Alt," "Spacebar" keys together, then release them and press the "S" key to launch the Size command.

    • 2

Press the "Down" arrow key until the title bar is visible and you can grab the top of it. Adjust the size as required.

    • 3

Press the "Escape" key to exit the Size command.

    • 4

Grab the top of the "Save As" dialog box and then drag it downward to reduce its height--- if you can actually see the title bar. If necessary, drag the title bar upward to increase its height.

Tips & Warnings

  • The recently changed size is stored in the Windows registry, so the next time you open a dialog box, it wil be the same size as the last time it appeared.

  • Windows Explorer add-ons can interfere with these changes.
