How to Make a Purse out of a Handkerchief

Handkerchiefs aren't just for blowing your nose or wiping sweat from your brow. Handkerchiefs, especially vintage handkerchiefs with beautiful hand stitching, are convenient little squares of fabric for a number of sewing projects. Make a small purse with a decorative handkerchief. In less than an hour you will have a convenient little pouch to carry your cell phone, wallet and keys.

Things You'll Need

• Handkerchief
• Sewing machine
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Fold the handkerchief in half diagonally with the right side of the handkerchief to the inside.

2. Sew two straight seams -- one on each side of the triangle -- perpendicular to the folded edge where the height of the side of the triangle is 4 inches. Trim the side points of the triangle off 1/4 inch from the seam.

3. Turn the handkerchief pouch right side out. Tie the two top points of the handkerchief together to form the handle of the purse.
