How to Download 8mm Films to DVDs
Home movies had only one format for years -- 8 mm film. Images on DVDs last longer, however. If you have precious family memories or events that you want to preserve, it is best to transfer those videos onto DVDs. In addition, you can make copies of the DVD so you can share your videos.
Things You'll Need
- DVD recorder
- Camcorder
- Firewire cable (i.LINK)
- DVD+R/RW (recordable DVDs that can be rewritten if you make a mistake)
- 8 mm projector with three-bladed shutter and variable speed control
- White card

1
Project the film image onto the white card. Line up the camcorder parallel with the projector's lens. Use the camcorder to capture the images shown on the white card.
-
2
Connect the camcorder to the DVD recorder with the firewire cable. If your recorder does not have a firewire input, you can also use an S-Video or RCA video cable.

Change the input on your DVD recorder to match the cable you are using. "DV" refers to the firewire connection. "L1" and "L2" refer to the front and back RCA inputs. To change the inputs, press the "Input Select" button on the DVD recorder's remote control.

Press "Record" on the DVD recorder and "Play" on your camcorder simultaneously. Once the DVD is finished burning, it will need to be "finalized" for playback on other devices. This process differs among makes of recorders, so you will need to consult the owner's manual.
