How to Filter Out Tweets in Hootsuite

Save

Hootsuite's feature-rich yet user-friendly interface attracts users looking for an alternative to Twiiter's basic interface. With the Basic Plan, you get access to analytics, feed management and Klout scores, which measure online influence. Monitor your tweets, mentions, retweets and direct messages by displaying them in different panels. Hootsuite also lets you integrate Twitter search strings with filters to prevent "noise" from flooding your Hootsuite timeline. This allows you to keep only conversations that suit your interests and add value to your business.

Filtering Tweets by Keyword

  • Log in to your Hootsuite account. Click on the tab for your Twitter account.

  • Click the arrow at the upper-right corner of the feed panel that you want to manage.

  • Click on "Filter by." This opens a yellow bar under the title bar. By default, "Keyword" is selected.

  • Enter a keyword for your filter. Click the "x" button to remove the filter.

Filtering Tweets by Klout Score

  • Log in to your Hootsuite account. Click on the tab for your Twitter account.

  • Click the arrow at the upper-right corner of the feed panel that you want to manage.

  • Click on "Filter by." This opens a yellow bar under the title bar. Click the drop-down menu beside "Filter" and select "Klout Score."

  • Set the minimum Klout score for your filter using the toggle bar. Click the "x" button to remove the filter.

Creating A Filtered Stream

  • Log in to your Hootsuite account. Click on the tab for your Twitter account.

  • Click on "Add Stream" just below the tabs. This opens the "Add Stream" window.

  • Select the Twitter profile you want to use. Click the drop-down menu and choose the feed that you want to manage. Choose "Home Feed" to apply the filter to all tweets.

  • Go to the "Search" tab. Under "Enter a search query," type your search string. For instance, to show tweets that contain links, type "filter:links." Click on "Show examples" for more samples of search strings.

  • Click on "Create Stream." This opens another panel on Hootsuite containing your filtered tweets.

Tips & Warnings

  • Combine multiple search strings under one query for more specific results. For instance, the search string "design ? -tutorials filter:links" will output design-related questions with links, excluding those that contain the word "tutorials."
