How to Put a Bible Reading Plan in a Church Bulletin

How to Put a Bible Reading Plan in a Church Bulletin thumbnail
Adding a Bible reading plan to a church bulletin requires some effort.

Christian believers hear that they need to read the Bible daily, but many don't know where to start. A Bible reading plan can complement a church bulletin, providing tips and a guideline to reading the Bible daily. The reading plan can be in the form of a quarterly bookmark or handout in the church bulletin that church-goers can place in their Bibles. Having a reading plan helps Christians keep on track to learning and growing regarding Christianity.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask the Lord to help you find the right Bible reading plan for your church bulletin.

    • 2

Search for Bible reading plans. One source is the You Version website, which is linked in the Resources section. It includes more than 30 Bible reading plans. In addition, many Bibles have a reading plan in their back, next to the concordance. Many reading plans include a daily dose of Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.

    • 3

Determine whether or not the church bulletin Bible reading plan will go through the entire Bible in one year.

    • 4

Choose up to three Bible reading plans from your research.

    • 5

Ask the church leaders, or whoever will decide which reading plan is most appropriate for the church bulletin, to choose one of the reading plans.

    • 6

Divide the selected Bible reading plan into quarters. Use three months for each quarter, such as January through March, April through June, July through September and October through December.

    • 7

Decide whether to place the Bible reading plan as a bookmark or a separate sheet in the church bulletin. Either order printed bookmarks for each quarter's readings, or put each quarterly reading plan on a 1/2 sheet of paper. Place a quarterly reading plan in the church bulletin every quarter.

Tips & Warnings

  • 1. Encourage members to read along in their small group Bible studies and discuss topics they are reading.

  • 2. Have accountability partners who you can check on to be sure you are keeping up with your reading.

  • 3. If you find it too difficult to keep up with the Bible reading plan that you have chosen, you may want to reduce your reading into two parts, have a morning and an evening reading time.

  • 4. If reading the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs is too much to absorb in one day, break your reading into a two year reading plan. Begin by reading the New Testament section only. Then as you feel comfortable and desire more, add Psalms and Proverbs. When you have completed the year, spend the next year reading the Old Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.

  • 5. When you have completed a year of your present reading plan, you may repeat as the Word of God never changes but our understanding and revelation of God's Word continues to grow within us.

  • 6. Change your reading plan and find one that keeps you reading regularly.

  • Do not depend on daily devotionals that only give you one scripture a day. In order to grow in understanding God's Word, His guidance and instruction, you will need to read, study and learn more than one verse can provide.
