How to Update Your Shockwave Installation

Adobe Shockwave is a software package that programmers and Web developers use to create interactive Web applications such as games and content-rich websites. If you visit a Shockwave-enabled website and do not have the latest version of Shockwave installed on your computer, the website should automatically prompt you to install an update. However, this prompt does not appear if you have disabled Shockwave's auto-update functionality. Enable the auto-update feature in Shockwave or download the updates manually from the Adobe Downloads page.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to the Adobe "Test Shockwave Player" page. If Shockwave Player is installed on your computer, a small box on the page displays the Adobe Shockwave logo along with the message, "Installation Complete."

    • 2

Right-click the Adobe Shockwave logo and select "Properties."

    • 3

Click the "Automatic Update Service (Recommended)" check box and then click "OK."

    • 4

Navigate to the Adobe Downloads page and click the "Get Adobe Shockwave Player" button on the right side.

    • 5

Click the drop-down menu under "Step 1" and select "Windows." Note that Adobe Shockwave Player is also available for Mac OS X.

    • 6

Click the drop-down menu under "Step 2" and select the Shockwave Player version ending with "Windows Full IE" if you use Internet Explorer, or select the version ending with "Windows Full Other Browsers" if you use another Web browser.

    • 7

Click "Agree and Install Now." Windows displays a pop-up message asking you to confirm that you want to install software on your computer.

    • 8

Click "Install." Windows downloads the installation package for Shockwave Player and displays a new window titled "Installing Adobe Shockwave Player."

    • 9

Remove the check from the "Include Norton Security Scan" box if you do not want to install Norton Security Scan on your computer. This is a third-party offer and is not necessary for Shockwave Player to function.

    • 10

Click "Next." The Web browser displays the message "Installation Complete," indicating that Adobe Shockwave Player is successfully updated.
