Gargling with tea tree oil may soothe a sore throat.

Tea-tree oil has been used for decades to treat a range of discomforts. The tea tree is native to a small region of New South Wales, on the east coast of Australia. The oil derived from the tea-tree leaves is used as an antifungal, antibacterial and an anti-infection agent. It has a soothing aroma and is considered by many to be beneficial for treating burns, scars, acne and blisters. When diluted in water, it can also be helpful in treating a sore throat. Tea-tree oil can be found in health-food stores.
