Remove bacteria from your home, and this will in turn help to prevent them from multiplying and reaching your food and body. Regular and thorough cleaning will keep your environment free from bacteria and avoid build-up. Use hot water and an anti-bacterial household product to clean surfaces, particularly areas that are touched a lot such as kitchen tops, toilet seats, door handles and trash cans. Wash and vacuum floors regularly to remove dirt brought in by footwear from outdoors. Keep your pets clean and out of the kitchen and eating areas.

Take care when storing, preparing and cooking your food to rid and protect it from harmful bacteria that could enter your body when you eat. Meat, fish and dairy products should be refrigerated, well-packaged and separated from one another. Keep meat on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator to avoid raw juices dripping onto the rest of your food. Store fruit and vegetables in a separate section of your refrigerator or in a cool dark area in a cupboard or pantry. Immediately dispose of any food that is past its expiration date. Wash your hands before and after handling food, and wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly under cold water. Raw meat and eggs should be handled on a different surface than other foods, and the area should be disinfected after preparation. To check that meat is fully cooked and any harmful bacteria have been killed, poke a knife in the side of it and press down lightly to ensure that any residue juices run clear and not pink.

Cleanse and rid your body of bacteria by making some small changes to your diet, taking a supplement or visiting your doctor for medication. Harmful bacteria can enter your body most commonly via food, water or the air you breathe. The body provides an ideal environment for the bacteria to live and multiply, which in turn can cause upsets like food poisoning, diarrhea, a stuffy nose or a sore throat. Drink eight glasses of water a day to help flush out any lingering toxins in your system. Try to eat foods that are packed with probiotic live cultures such as natural yogurt, or take a supplement. Both contain good bacteria, which can counteract and balance the effects of the harmful bacteria. Boosting your diet with foods containing vitamin C, like oranges, will also help to strengthen and support your immune system to help kill off the bacteria. Similarly, a prescription of antibiotics from your doctor will also kill the bacteria within a few days.

Tips & Warnings
Bacteria in our homes, food and bodies occur naturally and so it isn't possible or necessary to try and remove them all. Instead, you should focus on maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria, which can be achieved by keeping your home clean, your food correctly stored and cooked, and by eating a balanced diet.
If you are concerned that you have been exposed to harmful bacteria, contact your doctor, who will be able to carry out the relevant tests and treatment where necessary.
