How to Absorb Noise in a Loud Restaurant
Dining out is a way to escape the madness of the everyday world and a noisy restaurant greatly diminishes the ability to enjoy private moments. Make your restaurant an oasis for your customers by providing a space of refuge. There are simple steps you can take to diminish and absorb noise, but the best way to do it is in the initial planning process of the restaurant. If you have an already established place, you can still take steps to reduce the noise and increase your customers' enjoyment.

1
Use sounds absorbing materials when doing construction on your restaurant. Good installation, plastered walls, egg crates and sealant should be checked to ensure that they have sound absorbing qualities. Talk to your builder about using materials that absorb sound.
-
2
Place the ice machine in an out-of-the-way location. Customers should not hear ice being made or collected if it is possible to avoid.

3
Place sound absorbing shades, blinds or curtains on the windows in your restaurant, especially if you have many windows. Windows do not absorb sound and therefore make a space sound louder than it actually is.
-
4
Place carpeting in areas with high traffic, particularly if the rest of the flooring is tile or wood. Carpet helps to absorb noise. Use table cloths on the tables to provide another cloth area that will help deflect the noise.

5
Install sound absorbing panels, tiles or baffles on the walls and ceiling of your restaurant. These come in many different styles, colors and shapes to ensure that your aesthetics are not disturbed. Have these installed by a professional soundproofing company for best results.
