The PowerPoint 2007 master slide has a placeholder in which to insert page or slide numbers. Slide numbering provides organization and flow to a PowerPoint presentation, particularly if the content is long, or if you do not move sequentially through the slides. Once a page number is inserted on the master, each new slide automatically includes the page number field. The Slide Master placeholder is located along the bottom of the slide, so that the numbers do not obscure the content.
Launch PowerPoint and open a new presentation by selecting "File," then "New" from the menu.
Select "Master Slide." Click the "Master Layout" button in the "Master Layout" group. Alternately, right-click on the master slide and select "Master Layout."
Click on "Slide Numbers" in the Placeholder pane of the "Master Layout" window that opens.
