How Do Microfiber Cleaning Cloths Work?

Microfibers are so named because of their large number of fibers tightly woven together. Each microfiber cleaning cloth differs in the number of fibers used. The smaller the fiber size, or denier, the more effective the cleaning cloth. While the effectiveness may vary among cloths, most microfiber cloths do a good job of picking up and holding dust and dirt. With the dirt-capturing ability of microfiber cleaning cloths, chemicals -- and even water -- may not be needed for most cleaning jobs. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe dirty and dusty surfaces gently with a microfiber cleaning cloth. Usually no cleaning products are required. Use the microfiber cloth to wipe tables, screens, floors, and almost any other dirty or dusty surface.

    • 2

Shake the microfiber cloth over a garbage can to remove the dirt and dust.

    • 3

For tougher residue, spray the microfiber cloth lightly with water or a cleaner appropriate for the surface. Wring out any excess water before using the cloth.

    • 4

Wash the microfiber cleaning cloth in your washing machine using hot water and a gentle detergent. Hot water helps release the trapped dirt by expanding the fibers. Dry the microfiber cloth in the clothes dryer on low, or hang the cloth to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • For lint- and streak-free glass, dampen half the microfiber cloth and keep the other dry. Wipe the glass with the damp half, then dry the glass with the dry half.

  • Over-wetting the microfiber cloth decreases its effectiveness.
