How to Close a Sun Trust Account

SunTrust is a banking institution that offers its customers online and local checking and banking, investing, retirement and other services traditional banks offer. If you are unsatisfied with any part of SunTrust, you have the option to close the account provided you are not under violation of any agreements. Closing your account for whatever reason can be simple and only takes a few minutes with your banker.

• Account number
• Government-issued ID such as a driver's license or state ID

Instructions

1. Locate your nearest SunTrust store branch using the bank's online branch locator. You can also call 1-800-854-8965 to find your nearest branch.

2. Read over the "Terms and Agreements" of your account. If you have a Money Market or CD account, there may be restrictions as to when you can close your account. You can likely cancel checking accounts with debit and credit cards immediately without penalty.

3. Bring your account number and a form of government-issued identification, such as a driver's license or state ID, to your local branch.

4. Speak with a banker to close your account.

• Be persistent! The banker will feed you reasons why you should continue to bank with SunTrust. Let the banker know you are not interested in staying with the bank and you are here for the sole purpose of closing the account.
