How to Move the Menu Bar Above the Address Bar in IE8

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 is a popular Web browser included by default with many versions of the Windows operating system. While it has many similarities to earlier versions of the Internet Explorer Web browser, one noticeable difference confuses many new users. The menu bar, which includes "File," "Edit" and "Tools," among other different menus, is not displayed above the address bar. If you wish to restore this navigational tool, you can do so by editing the registry on your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your user account will need to have administrator access to make changes to your registry. If your user account doesn't have administrator access, you will be prompted for an administrator password. You can obtain this from someone with an administrator account on your computer.
