You can cut a fringe into an old blanket to keep it from fraying.

If you have an old blanket with an edge that is fraying, or you just want to give it a face lift, consider creating a knotted border for that blanket. You can create a fringe border on just about any blanket using the knot technique, which will ensure there is no more fraying without the use of a needle and thread. This solution is ideal for sewing novices who aren't yet comfortable with hemming their own seams.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a four-inch square out of each corner of the blanket. Discard extra fabric.

    • 2

Make four-inch cuts into the edges of the blanket, continuing the cuts along all for sides. The cuts should be about one-inch apart, creating a fringe border around the perimeter of the blanket.

    • 3

Tie a knot at the bottom of each piece of fringe to secure the threading and ensure there will be no fraying.

    • 4

Iron the blanket on low heat, ironing over the fringe pieces as well so they lie nice and flat.
