You can enjoy Eli's original cheesecake at home.

In the late 1970's, Chicago restaurateur Eli Schulman began serving cheesecake for dessert at his steakhouse, called Eli's The Place for Steak. The cheesecake was later served at the first Taste of Chicago food festival and quickly became the event's most sought after dessert. Eli's restaurant closed in 2005, but the now famous Original Recipe cheesecakes are still being produced at a factory in Chicago and shipped frozen to customers across the country. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place the packaged cheesecake in your refrigerator overnight to thaw. This will prevent condensation from forming on top of the cheesecake.

    • 2

Remove the cheesecake from packaging and let it sit at room temperature for 1 hour before serving.

    • 3

Defrost the cheesecake by removing it from the packaging and placing on a counter top for 4 to 5 hours if refrigeration is not an option. Moisture may collect on top of the cheesecake if you choose this method.

Tips & Warnings

  • Serve Eli's original cheesecake chilled for best taste.

  • To slice cheesecake, use a knife that has been dipped in hot water.
