How to Apply Sheet Vinyl

Vinyl flooring that is used in a kitchen or bathroom is typically installed using one large sheet. A sheet of vinyl is typically glued to a proper subfloor. A suitable subfloor is a 1/4-inch sheet of plywood. Applying a vinyl sheet to the floor requires that it be properly fitted. This requires sizing the vinyl to the shape of the room. If you don't have the proper tools and materials needed, you must get them from a local hardware or home improvement store. Does this Spark an idea?

    • 2

Roll out the vinyl flooring on the floor and position the template on top. Tape the template to the floor and trace around it with the felt-tip marker.

    • 3

Align the straight edge on the marks and cut the flooring with the utility knife.

    • 4

Position the flooring in the room for a dry fit. Roll back one side to expose the subfloor.

    • 5

Open the bucket of flooring adhesive and scoop it out with the trowel. Spread the adhesive so that it is even on the floor with the notched side of the trowel. Lay the flooring on the adhesive and adhere it by using the floor roller.

Roll back the other side of the flooring. Spread the glue on the subfloor and lay the flooring in place.

    • 7

Allow the adhesive to dry for at least 12 hours.
